If you have to check the state of one or more computers, on a regular basis, it would be more efficient to check them from your own computer, instead of going from one machine to another. Total Network Monitor keeps track of a remote computer's services, registry entries, disk space, performance and more. You can set up various rules and if something fails or exceeds your defined values, the software will automatically execute an action of your choice.

Total Network Monitor is freeware and it takes less than a minute to download its setup file and install its components. It is compatible with numerous Windows editions, from Win NT4 to Windows 7 and the minimum system requirements should not be a problem for any modern day computer. The best part is that you don't have to install the software on remote computers.

Remote computers, as well as your own machine, are displayed in a tree structure, on the left side of the user interface. A new workstation, laptop, Mac, server, router, a remote host and other devices can be added without any difficulties. You just need to select a device and type its IP address, on a separate window. You can define one or more monitors, for a selected computer, in the larger area on the right.

Monitors are configured on a tabbed window. You can select various Internet, Windows and file probes from a drop menu and set a checking frequency, from 5 seconds to 24 hours. After selecting a probe, you may set up its behavior on a separate tab. The software places different options at your disposal, depending on the selected probe. A monitor can be set to go to red or green, if certain conditions are met. For example, if you want to monitor the free or used disk space, on a certain partition, you may select a volume and set the monitor to go to red, if the used disk space exceeds a certain value.

When creating a monitor, you can also define one or more actions, like displaying a notification, playing a sound, rebooting the computer and others. These actions are executed automatically, if the monitor goes to a certain color. You can also set the program to execute your actions repeatedly, for a certain number of times or execute them on system startup. Monitors are listed along with their colors, addresses, intervals and many other details. You can start, pause or stop a selected monitor at any time, by clicking the available options, above the monitors list.

Besides the added computers and hosts, you can select different filters, in the same tree structure, to show only monitors of a certain color. The software displays different logs, for all or individual monitors, their activity and executed actions, in the lower region of the interface. The created logs can be exported in HTML and XML format or as a plain text file.

Pros

The software is capable of monitoring numerous services and other aspects of one or more remote computers. It can execute various actions, if certain conditions are met. Adding new computers or creating monitors is not difficult. You can export different types of logs, in HTML, XML or TXT format.

Cons

There are no serious drawbacks to encounter. With Total Network Monitor, you can make sure that your remote computers are functioning correctly and that the necessary actions are executed if one of them fails.
